Why contact him?
Senator Limmer (R-SD34) is the chair of the Judiciary & Public Safety Committee in the Minnesota Senate and holds significant power to determine what legislation will be heard -or not heard- in the main committee that needs to hear the ERA legislation - SF323, 423, 342 and/or 850 . Instead, Sen. Limmer is passing the buck and claiming that the decision lies with Majority Leader Gazelka.

Sen. Limmer is a member of his party’s leadership team and has just as much influence to make these decisions. He and his party need to prove to the women of Minnesota that they support ALL of their constituents EQUALLY.

Here's example text - feel free to use it, adapt it or just write your own.   If you are thinking of writing an actual letter -- see our template.
Dear Senator x,
I’m writing to encourage you to support placing the Minnesota ERA on the ballot in 2022.

The Minnesota Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is about creating opportunities for everyone regardless of their gender and I think that Minnesotans should get to decide if we want the amendment as part of our Constitution.

I think we should all be able to agree on the importance and relevance of these simple words - "Equality under the law shall not be abridged or denied on account of gender".

I believe passing the amendment will help address serious issues in Minnesota like gender violence, workplace discrimination, and the wage gap. I also believe it will help create a more open society where people have the opportunity to choose their path regardless of their gender, something all of us should have.

Please support putting the Minnesota ERA on the ballot in 2022 and removing the time frame on the Federal ERA.

Thank you for your consideration of my viewpoint on this matter. I believe it is an extremely important issue, and would like to see the legislation pass to enable the citizens of Minnesota be able to vote for themselves on this amendment.

Sincerely,

Here are a few tips for talking to legislators:
  • Let them know why you think the ERA is important.
  • Tell them the reasons why equality matters to you.
  • Whether they support the amendment or not ask them to let Minnesotans have the opportunity to vote on it in 2022.
  • Be clear about what you want and respectful in the way you ask for their support.
  • Anything you can do is helpful.

Contact More Senators

Please contact each of the senators below and ask them to give Minnesotans the chance to vote on the ERA in 2022 and to tell Congress to remove the deadline from the Federal ERA. These senators will decide whether or not the amendment gets on the ballot.
