Why contact him?
Senator Gazelka (R-SD9) is the Majority Leader of the Minnesota Senate and holds the power to determine what legislation will be heard -or not heard- throughout the Senate during this biennium. Senator Limmer, who chairs the main committee that needs to hear SF200 & SF208 in the Judiciary & Public Safety Committee, is using Sen. Gazelka as his main reason for not advancing either of the ERA bills.
The buck stops with Sen. Gazelka as he is the ultimate decider of the fate of whether the ERA is taken seriously in the Senate, and therefore ALL Minnesotans should be contacting him to voice their support to urge him to champion women’s equality in Minnesota.

Dear Senator x,
I’m writing to encourage you to support placing the Minnesota ERA on the ballot in 2020.
The Minnesota Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is about creating opportunities for everyone regardless of their gender and I think that Minnesotans should get to decide if we want the amendment as part of our Constitution.
I think we should all be able to agree on the importance and relevance of these 14 words - "Equality under the law shall not be abridged or denied on account of gender".
I believe passing the amendment will help address serious issues in Minnesota like gender violence, workplace discrimination, and the wage gap. I also believe it will help create a more open society where people have the opportunity to choose their path regardless of their gender, something all of us should have.
Please support putting the Minnesota ERA on the ballot in 2020 (SF200) and removing the time frame on the Federal ERA (SF208).
Thank you for your consideration of my viewpoint on this matter. I believe it is an extremely important issue, and would like to see the legislation pass to enable the citizens of Minnesota be able to vote for themselves on this amendment.
Here are a few tips for talking to legislators:
Contact More Senators
Please contact each of the senators below and ask them to give Minnesotans the chance to vote on the ERA in 2020 and to tell Congress to remove the deadline from the Federal ERA. These senators will decide whether or not the amendment gets on the ballot.
We also need you to contact your legislators and tell them to support placing the Minnesota Equal Rights Amendment on the ballot in 2020.
