Womens Equality Day*
& ERA Fundraiser

Friday, August 26th
5pm - 7 pm

Help us move from Defense to Offense for Equal Legal Rights!
Picture
*At the behest of Rep. Bella Abzug (D-NY), in 1971 and passed in 1973,  the U.S. Congress designated August 26 as “Women’s Equality Day.” The date was selected to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. This was the culmination of a massive, peaceful civil rights movement by women that had its formal beginnings in 1848 at the world’s first women’s rights convention, in Seneca Falls, New York. The observance of Women’s Equality Day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality. Workplaces, libraries, organizations, and public facilities now participate with Women’s Equality Day programs, displays, video showings, or other activities.

Thanks to our Sponsors: Women's Foundation of MN, Women's March MN, League of Women Voters MN, Gender Justice, Julie Bunn & Janet Berry.
This year the Federal Equal Rights Amendment (#ERA) was ratified in the 37th state leaving only 1 more state needed to ratify ERA nationally. Now the real work begins!

Let's celebrate our success and focus our energy getting an ERA into our own MN constitution and on garnering 1 more state for the nation to get an ERA on our country's constitution!

Although we are a grassroots, volunteer organization we do need funds for awareness raising, education, print materials, postage, advertising, organizing, website hosting, mailings, signs, buttons, and more!  If you can contribute to help defray some of the costs -- great!  Buy your ticket today!  What price can you put on Equality?!

We look forward to seeing you there!

  • If you are going to be at any event -- this is it!  Please make time to be there.
  • This is the time to show our legislators in numbers that we demand an ERA!!
  • If we can't convince them -- an ERA will never get on the ballot for the citizens to vote on.
Our goal is to get the Equal Rights Amendment on the Minnesota ballot in 2018 and we need your help!
Schedule for the day:
8:30-10am:
We'll be sending you out to meet your legislators and tell them how much the ERA means to you.
10:30-11:30am:
Join fellow supporters to rally in the rotunda!  We'll hear from bill authors and leaders from our partnering organizations on their support of the ERA.
We need volunteers to sit in House & Senate committee meetings!

We need volunteers to come and show presence in these meetings to make sure that the committees who are currently sitting on our bills know we're here and not going anywhere until our bills get hearings!

[Learn more about the process, committee members and meeting locations on our MN ERA page.]

The three committees and their scheduled meeting times are:
  1. Senate Judiciary & Public Safety
(Mon, Tues & Wed:  1-2:30 pm)

  2. House Civil Law & Data Practices
    (Tues & Thurs:  8:15 am)

  3. House Gov. Operations & Elections
(Tues, Wed & Thurs:  10:15 am)
