CALL Now!

Minnesotans have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a state where everyone is equal under the law. We can do this by adding these simple words to our state constitution:
Equality under the law shall not be abridged or denied on account of sex. [gender]

A Minnesota For Everyone
The Minnesota Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is about creating opportunities for everyone regardless of their gender.

The purpose of the Minnesota ERA is to:
  • Provide certainty and stability to Minnesota’s legal system by setting a clear legal standard that everyone, regardless of their gender, is protected equally under the law.
  • Help address serious issues in Minnesota like gender violence, workplace discrimination, and the wage gap.
  • Create a more open society where people have the opportunity to choose their path regardless of their gender.

Adding an equal rights amendment to the constitution is another step forward in Minnesota’s long journey towards becoming a place that embraces the diversity and uniqueness of its people.

It’s been almost fifty years since Minnesota passed legislation in support of the Federal ERA and almost one hundred years since women won the right to vote. As we continue to work towards getting enough states to ratify the Federal ERA, we continue to live in a world where women still earn less than men and are significantly more likely to face gender discrimination.

We can change this together!

Get Involved

  1. To make this happen we need you to contact each of the senators above and ask them to give Minnesotans the chance to vote on the ERA in 2020 and to tell Congress to remove the deadline from the Federal ERA. These senators will decide whether or not the amendment gets on the ballot.
  2. We also need you to contact your legislators and tell them to support placing the Minnesota Equal Rights Amendment on the ballot in 2022.
Who Represents Me?

How To Reach Your Legislator

The most effective way to reach elected officials is to stop by their office (when possible), schedule a meeting, or attend a town hall or public appearance. It also works to give them a call, send them an email, or write them a letter and ask them to support the ERA. Learn more on our Lobbying 101 page.   See a Sample Letter

Here are a few tips for talking to legislators:
  • Let them know why you think the ERA is important.
  • Tell them the reasons why equality matters to you.
  • Whether they support the amendment or not ask them to let Minnesotans have the opportunity to vote on it in 2022.
  • Be clear about what you want and respectful in the way you ask for their support.
  • Anything you can do is helpful.
